The Chicken Coop

Well, it’s August 2012 and we are preparing for a flock of new chickens to arrive this spring. We are planning on getting 25 young chicks and want to make sure we have ample space in the Hen House as well as the ‘Chicken Yard’. Our initial plans wound up being for a 24′ x 60′ chicken yard that will include the 8 x 10′ Hen House. The ‘yard’ is fenced in with 1″ Poultry Wire and covered at the top with Landscape screening, supported by 12′ 4″ x 4″ posts. The screening is necessary due to the numerous Hawks and Owls we have on our property.

Planning & Construction…

The whole operation, from clearing the wooded area to the completed yard and Hen House took 4 months and our new flock arrived in the Spring of 2013. Four months after the chicks arrived we got our first egg!
